Course Syllabus

Learners will complete 5 units of study in total as listed below.

  • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people

  • Understand the stages of development of young children from birth to 3 years

  • Understand how positive environments support the development of young children

  • Understand how to support young children’s development by providing for their basic needs

  • Respecting and valuing children

  • Understand the value of play to young children’s development

  • Know different play activities suitable for young children from birth to five years 11 months

  • Understand the role of the adult in providing play for young children

  • Importance of play for early learning

  • Understand the importance of creativity and imagination for the development of a child

  • Understand the role and importance of games with rules in the development of a child

  • Know how to organise a cooking activity for children

  • Understand the role of creating activities in enhancing children’s learning and development.

  • Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet

  • Understand food labelling

  • Understand food additives

  • Be able to apply principles of healthy eating 

  • Accident prevention and fire safety when babysitting

  • Know about the legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people including e-safety

  • Know what do when children or young people are ill or injured, including emergency procedures

  • Know how to respond to evidence or concerns that a child or young person has been abused, harmed or bullied. 

Entry Requirements
  • No previous qualifications are required

  • Students looking to enrol onto this course should meet the following criteria:

  • Be aged 16 Years or above

  • Possess a solid knowledge of the english language

  • Have access to a PC and the internet for the duration of the whole course

  • Basic computer skills: e.g Word processing, emailing, uploading documents etc

  • Have a genuine desire to succeed

This course provides successful students with a fully recognised qualification from TQUK, listed on the RQF (Regulated Qualifications Framework). TQUK is recognised as an awarding organisation by the qualification regulators for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, who are: the office of the qualifications and examinations regulator (OFQUAL) in England, the Welsh Government and the council for curriculum, examinations and assessment (CCA) in Northern Ireland.

Please note: This qualification is not recognised in Scotland.

Assessment 

Learners will be required to complete a series of tutor-marked assignments ( normally 1 after each unit) as they progress through this course. Each assignment will contain a variety of tasks/questions. These assignments are assessed by your tutor to monitor progress. You will be provided with constructive feedback to help you in completing each unit to the required standard.

There is no examination to complete as the course is completed using continual assessment.
